Second chances are a gift.

Not just the kind you get on the golf course when you take a mulligan, but the kind that changes lives. The kind that Jim Dawkins gave me years ago, and the kind we’re fighting for every day at Redeemed Living.

This year’s Mulligans for Life golf tournament is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of those second chances. And it’s personal. Let me tell you why.

Donald Thomas
A tribute to Donald Thomas and the second chances that inspire Redeemed Living's annual golf fundraiser.

Recently Jim Dawkins made a special gift to Redeemed Living in honor of his father-in-law, Donald Thomas (pictured). Donald was a lifelong golfer, a man who loved the game so much he scored three hole-in-ones in his career. He was also a man who believed in legacy—one that Jim is carrying forward in the most beautiful way.

You see, Jim didn’t just lose a father-in-law; he lost a mentor, a friend, and someone who shaped his family’s story. And in Donald’s honor, Jim chose to invest in men like me—men who are fighting for their own second chances. His gift is helping us bridge what we call the "forgotten step"—that critical year after treatment when men need structure, accountability, and a community to rebuild their lives.

Jim’s story is close to my heart because he’s been like family to me for years. He gave me a job when I was just a neighborhood kid, mentored me, and showed me what it looks like to live with integrity. Now, he’s giving other men the same opportunity to rewrite their stories.

That’s what Mulligans for Life is all about: giving men a second shot at life, just like I got.
